What to See at London Design Festival 2015

If you follow me on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) you will know that I am privileged to be launching my first product collection with infamous Designersblock at the London Design Festival this September 24th – 27th.

The exhibition will be held at OXO Tower Wharf, on the South Bank. I will be in “Room H” in the Bargehouse Building (second floor).  If you’re coming to the festival please come and say hello! Register for your free tickets here.

I will be exhibiting a long tray (photo below has three of them stacked), a bird feeder in two sizes, and a letter rack in the shape of the four highest peaks in Great Britain. Each of them has an element of traditional craft but they are contemporary and angular in design. See my full spiel on www.artsthread.com

Now! On to my article…

I usually stick to one product but instead I’m going to show you guys a couple of things that I’m definitely going to go and see while I’m at the festival next week.

Plants Out of Place

This project asks us to re-consider the value of weeds. Why are they considered undesirable? What role do they play in society? Do they have medicinal / ecological / visual benefits? I’m gonna guess ‘Yes! Yes! Yes!’.

Queens Park.

Serif TV

Serif TV is Samsung’s new venture with the Bouroullec brothers. I have never seen a more beautiful telly, it really is a world away from every other television design I’ve seen. They said that Samsung must have hated them at times so kudos to both sides for sticking with it. The visuals don’t stop outside, the whole menu and program guide system has been designed to integrate with the aesthetic as a whole.

The River Rooms, Somerset House. For the duration of the festival.

Restoration Station

A shop / workshop / social enterprise that restores furniture. In their words “We… help people through their recovery from addiction… giving opportunities to learn new skills, and enjoy the satisfaction of reviving furniture.” I’m so into this. If I ever move to London I will definitely volunteer here.

118 Shoreditch High St – 24th-25th September.

I am a product and furniture designer who loves simple items. Here at The Product Edit is where I confess my weakness for all the beautiful products out there. I publish on a Friday.
